We were lucky enough to see two Pacha NYC shows in a row where there was no opening act, just mind melting talent throughout the entire evening. After seeing the Swedes, Alesso and Sebastian Ingrosso, just a few weeks ago, we were given a show filled with the Germanic talents of Wippenberg (aka Olaf Dieckmann) and the uber duo known as Cosmic Gate (aka Nic Chagall and Bossi). Needless to say, they all took it to another level. Usually Pacha has mediocre opening DJ’s until about 12:30 – 1 ish, when the real deal comes on. However, Wippenberg brought the ruckus nice and early and didn’t let up until 1 am when Cosmic Gate took over the decks. Wippenberg isn’t new to the music scene, but certainly wont be fading out anytime soon. With over 15 years on the radar, he’s championed worldwide hits such as “Chakalaka” and “Pong”. He got the night started off on a dancing foot by dropping some classics, and a few mixes of songs that were completely unexpected. His super-collabo hit “100” with Nic Chagall (who was waiting in the wings) and Rank 1 stirred the crowd into a frenzy. His classics reminded us of the unique and genre-melding sounds Wippenberg is known for. We heard a number of epic tracks we were anxiously anticipating. “‘Save The World,’” (Alesso Remix) really got the party poppin. There’s very few things better in the world than a Swede remixing a Swedish House Mafia track, haha. ‘Koko’ came thru the speakers and seemingly right into peoples bloodstreams, injecting everyone with energy and joy. Something about that song never seems to dissapoint. I then utilized the press pass provided by Pacha to see Wippenberg from the DJ booth along with Cosmic Gate enjoying some nice pre set champagne.
We were lucky enough to find some extraordinarily nice people who invited us to hang at their VIP table while we were taking videos & photos. As a surprise to us one of the gents knew Wippenberg personally! He is a friendly, down-to-earth guy…and we would know because we got to chill with him after his set! I told him about my recent Grecian adventures and he mentioned something about partying in Mykonos and I’m sure some other very interesting things that I couldn’t comprehend in lieu of the aural assault from Cosmic Gate combined with the thick Germanic accent. Anywho, we here at SBB have a newfound admiration for this DJ and cant wait to hear what the future holds.

Cosmic Gate has pushed the boundaries of EDM since it’s creation and Friday night at Pacha NYC was no exception. They refused to give in to the stereotypical trance sound and surprised the crowd with some grungy, hard-hitting tracks. They impressed us as soon as they came on with their stage presence and the overall amount of fun they were having. They were jumping in the air, fist pumping, turning the music down, getting the crowd involved with the lyrics and then crushing the speakers with the mighty drops. I captured some pretty magical videos that you should all check out below. Among many gems, our favorite tracks Cosmic Gate dropped were ‘The Theme” by Jurgen Vries, “Raging” by Alexander Popov (Cosmic Gate edit) “Outsider” by Beat Service, “Mirage” by Pryda, “Stars” by Gareth Emery, “Superman” by Mat zo & “Not Enough Time” by Cosmic Gate. Thank you Pacha NYC for hosting another epic event.
