[Review] Above & Beyond @ The Hollywood Bowl. (5/28)

I have always made the argument that electronic dance music producers (great ones, anyway) are our modern-day classical composers. The production of a piece from start to finish, whether on a laptop or scribbled on staff paper, requires musicality and technical knowledge. Translating the emotion of a song to an audience requires innate talent and passion for the music. Above & Beyond have always hypnotized us with their message and emotional transparency, and wear their hearts on their sleeves both in their studio productions and live performances. This past Saturday at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, the performance was about as live as you can get.

The show was more exceptional than we could have ever imagined it to be, and we feel utterly grateful that we were able to witness this rare and unique event. I’d rather not refer to the performance as a “stripped down” version of their electronic pieces, but explain that instead we were let into that special place where the band’s pieces were born. The emotional grip that the lyrics and movements have on Above & Beyond fans everywhere was apparent in the tears and palpable joy emitting from the sold-out venue.

Until next time!

New from Above & Beyond : “On My Way To Heaven” Acoustic

In advance of their sold-out show at the legendary Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles tomorrow night (May 28), Above & Beyond are pleased to share “On My Way To Heaven.” The song appears on their Acoustic II album coming out June 3.

A&B bring their ‘side project’ to the Hollywood Bowl for a historic concert where they will acoustically perform re-imagined versions of some of their biggest hits accompanied by a 34-piece orchestra.

[Throwback Thursday] Thing Called Love – Above and Beyond (The Remixes)

There’s a thing called love that we all forget,
And it’s a wasted love that we all regret.
You live your life just once
So don’t forget, forget about a thing called LOVE.

As we enter our long holiday weekend and head down to Florida to celebrate the marriage of two incredible friends, Mr. and Mrs. Scott Rosen, we are bumping the glorious sounds of a Thing Called Love.  The infamous Eye Party power couple, Sam and Scott, are saying #eyedo on Sunday and we couldn’t be more excited to witness and be a part of the magic ahead.  Join us in wishing this amazing, kind, brilliant, and beautiful duo everlasting love, laughter, and a happily ever after.

‘We live at a time when distractions from reality are never further away than our fingertips. Our phones offer us unlimited stimulation and temporary comfort. The possibilities of technology are endless, but they also limit the possibility…the possibility to truly experience and submit to the moment.

For me, going to a club has always been about letting go of the world around me, like a vacation from the nagging realities of everyday life. In the best clubs I have been to, the people were united by a desire to experience electronic music in the purest sense; to get lost in its tension and release. No matter what was going on in their lives, it was a place where, for at least a few hours, nothing else mattered but the sheer power music had to bring people joy. And those experiences – held only by those in that room, at that moment – were almost like the reward to submitting to a secret society. At the end of the night, I could look at my friends, old and new, and without saying a single word, we’d know that what we experienced together was something special, something that would never quite be repeated again.’
