Morgan Page was born and raised in a log cabin in Vermont, but when he performed at Pacha NYC at the start of December…he took the Manhattan club by storm in a way that you would expect only a native New Yorker to understand, and displayed skills that only the most intuitive and genius producers can perfect. Since the age of 12, this American progressive and electro house DJ based out of Los Angeles, California, has composed incredible electronic music such as the widely praised tracks “Fight For You”, “The Longest Road”, “Strange Condition”, “In the Air”, and “Body Work” to name a few. When he dropped these bangers and so many other freshy tracks on December 1st, he had the entire NYC club singing along to his set and dancing like there was fire in their new shoes.
We had the amazing opportunity of talking with Morgan at his table after his set closed around 3:30 am, and the first thing I told him was that I am so impressed by his ability to translate so effortlessly from radio to club life, and recognize exactly how to please his audience. In the City that Never Sleeps… the crowd has a strong need for aggressive peaks within the sets we womp out to. Morgan has a sensitive side, composing gentle and catchy chart-topping choons on the reg…but then he also knows the importance of dropping a slayer that club goers can shake their booty to. New York crowds always want to stomp it out when it’s the weekend…dancing away all the hustle and bustle of the fastest and most furious of cities worldwide. Morgan’s transitions were flawless, he had the perfect mix of light and dark emotions intertwining in his musical story of the evening, and he totally won my heart over when he played a swanky remix of my all time favorite track “Addicted”. I shared with Page that I have literally listened to this song every day since he dropped In the Air… now that is an addiction… and proof of his natural gift of superior musical production.
I saw Page perform live for the first time at Electric Zoo NY this past Labor Day Weekend, and was utterly blown away by how infectious the fun surrounding his DJ booth was. Page has been awarded two Grammy Award nominations in his 31 years so far…in 2011 for best remix with Nadia Ali on her track “Fantasy”, and in 2009 for the Deadmau5 remix on his original song “The Longest Road”. Based off the energy that permeates from him when he’s on the decks, and by the smiles and enthusiasm throughout his audiences…it is easy to see why he is so successful. We can’t wait to see what this amazing producer creates next, and how he evolves his style. We love Morgan’s energy and diverse work in the music industry, and based on his tweet yesterday, “I really want to create a new genre this year. So much great music, but too similar”…we are so excited to follow him down his long and exciting career.
Be sure to keep up with him on his website (http://www.morgan-page.com) and we will keep you posted on any news we hear from this bright light in our EDM universe.
Thanks to Pacha NYC for another spectacular night out with our NY EDM Family!
