The fellas arms are definitely sore from the aggressive fist pumping and most of the ladies hearts were melted after an insanely energetic night at Ocean Club in Marina Bay! It was by far the best night of the summer at OC. I don’t know the exact capacity of OC but they were definitely pushing a full house. Avicii came out firing with tunes that he knew would get the crowd immediately amped, and that’s what a DJ like Avicii does. He creates a big party ambiance; unfortunately that doesn’t always translate into quality music.

I wasn’t extremely impressed with his track selection as it was quite similar to his set in Miami during Ultra Festival. (But that’s because I know he has a deeper library of music to choose from and I wish he played songs I hadn’t heard before.) He played a lot of his own tunes that are a bit outdated and threw some peanut butter and fluff on in the middle of his set with tracks like “Save The World Tonight” and a mash up of “Jump Around”. Its upsetting when you witness a performance that has so much potential but is held back for the sake of pleasing what one may think the crowd wants. It would have been nice to hear some heavier house tracks instead of the pop house he played, but again, overall it was an amazing show. Don’t get me wrong this place was BUMPING. At one point I said to myself this feels like a mini rave. I never thought that I would say that about any place in Boston & i’m glad Avicii proved me wrong.

The highlight of the night for me had to be when he dropped Starry Eyed by Ellie Goulding remixed by Max Vangeli and AN21. I used to BUMP this up when I was at the University Of Vermont! There’s nothing quite like hearing one of your favorite tunes live & getting goosebumps. My heart also melted a little when he played Drowning, which obviously made me think of the Cheetah Cait who shares the same love as me for that tune!

Avicii truly is the man for having as much energy as he does. He was dancing in the booth with a smile on his face the entire show.  As an experienced blogger/concert ‘goer’ in the EDM scene, one of the most important parts of a DJ’s performance is how involved they are mentally and physically, and Avicii definitely demonstrated his true passion for music. The entire place was shaking and as a result Bostonians ended up dancing their little hearts away!

Work is not fun right now because I was out late reporting for StopBreatheBump, but going to Ocean Club once again proved to be a stellar decision. Thank you for hosting a sick ass party. See you soon Ocean Club.
